Spoken softly into the night
Though in the dark, he speaks of light
Promises of brighter days
Are only words in the haze
Of sleep and wake within her mind
Stirring dreams of a tender kind
Replacing nightmares that used to haunt
With sweeter visions that seem to taunt
In a love so true she just can’t conceive
But he won’t give up making her believe
Upon her face, weariness so deep
Deprived of rest and deprived of sleep
Eyes are sunken and face so pale
Those around pondering her tale
But the reasons elude even her
As the days and nights pass in a blur
And blissful sleep just out of reach
Though to the night she does beseech
“For just this once do not pass so quick
Let the clock slow down its endless tick
Let time stand still within this night
So I may have the strength to fight
All of the battles waiting for me
That have kept me down on bended knee”
But by the night, her pleas unheard
And the daylight comes, undeterred
Day slowly fades from her sight
As she succumbs to the night
Moonlight covers her like a cloak
A breathless sight it does invoke
Her skin that glows so soft and sweet
As though this world holds no deceit
And the ground she walks upon
Is not the same come the dawn
For in the light the magic fades
With its piercing light that invades
So give her the moon and the night
And let her shine once more so bright
She closes her eyes and begins to see
All of those things she wishes could be
To be held so tight and held so dear
To know that love is always so near
To feel that kiss that reaches so deep
To know that her heart someone would keep
Safe and sound and free from all harm
Free to succumb to all his charm
But the dream will always disappear
And she’ll be left with nothing but fear
Her timid hand reaching out
Tremble with lingering doubt
But in the dark a sigh she hears
As she fights back a flood of tears
Fingers touch upon his skin
And all her fears fade within
Another sigh escapes his lips
And back to sleep she slowly slips
Into dreams of brighter days
Nightmares fade into the haze
In the haze of dreams you lie beside me
Kissing me soft and holding me tightly
But the sweetest dreams always give way
To the dawn of yet another day
And as I wake I no longer find you
Lying next to me with those eyes so true
And time moves on and the sun will rise
As I blink away dreams from my eyes
Another night with only dreams to hold
Yet a day closer to a love so bold
She closes her eyes and breathes so deep
Holding these feelings she aches to keep
Feeling her heart beating quicker
As the haze of dreams grows thicker
This love in her heart will never fade
As memories so sweet are replayed
In her dreams, asleep or awake
Her smile grows, there’s no mistake
