The morning light filters in
So softly upon her skin
A smile growing upon her face
For fading dreams she tries to chase
She opens her eyes, they disappear
But deep inside she still holds them near
For all the comfort that they bring
Against this world’s most vicious sting
Keeping her mind safe and whole
Despite this life’s daily toll

Safe Within
Dreaming
She closes her eyes and begins to see
All of those things she wishes could be
To be held so tight and held so dear
To know that love is always so near
To feel that kiss that reaches so deep
To know that her heart someone would keep
Safe and sound and free from all harm
Free to succumb to all his charm
But the dream will always disappear
And she’ll be left with nothing but fear
Illusions
Fire burning dim in her eyes
As she sees through all of the lies
The reality becoming clear
As she tries to grasp what she holds dear
But all the illusions turn to smoke
And with each breath she begins to choke
Until she can breathe no more
And falls slowly to the floor
Lifelike
She isn’t real
She needs to feel
She can’t be real
If she can’t heal
Soon she will fade
The price is paid
Her soul will fade
From mistakes made
She disappears
Into her fears
She disappears
Behind her tears
Hiding
Once again I disappear
Behind a mask, hide my fear
Let no one see what’s inside
The deepest truth’s, try to hide
Sadness I’ll hold deep within
Show no tears upon my skin
Wear no heart upon my sleeve
Though in my chest it will heave
There’s no weakness I will show
Where to hit they will not know
But can I keep this charade
How long till it starts to fade
Fading Flame
The flames are sinking low
No longer do they glow
So brightly against the sky
Or fiercely within her eye
As that fire becomes subdued
All that she is she must conclude
Has faded more than she thought
Now she finds herself distraught
No way to feed this fire
As it falls from the pyre
Poison So Sweet
The poison flows through her oh so sweetly
As she fades from this world so discretely
Fading away from the masks and charades
Through her soul the sense of freedom cascades
No longer is she shackled and bound
To a heart that humanity drowned
With its scorn and such contempt
Hid behind all things that tempt
With this freedom newly found
She has reached a higher ground
There are no more tears that she will cry
For all in life that has passed her by
But this freedom has come at a cost
For her heart is now encased in frost
