Dreaming

She closes her eyes and begins to see
All of those things she wishes could be
To be held so tight and held so dear
To know that love is always so near
To feel that kiss that reaches so deep
To know that her heart someone would keep
Safe and sound and free from all harm
Free to succumb to all his charm
But the dream will always disappear
And she’ll be left with nothing but fear

Illusions

Fire burning dim in her eyes
As she sees through all of the lies
The reality becoming clear
As she tries to grasp what she holds dear
But all the illusions turn to smoke
And with each breath she begins to choke
Until she can breathe no more
And falls slowly to the floor

Fading Smoke

Smoke rises up as the flames burn low
Giving the last of their precious glow
The warmth is gone as the embers turn cold
Nothing left to give, nothing left to hold
The smoke drifts away without a care
Quietly vanishing in the air
Until nothing’s left, no sign of the flames
And once more the night this darkness reclaims

The Guardian

Guarding her heart with ferocious intent
Defending her soul from further torment
He stands stoically poised at the gate
Smoke wrapping round his wings will soon sedate
If any approach it’s flames he’ll breathe
His razor-sharp claws he will unsheathe
He will protect her till the end
Giving her sweet heart time to mend
